Mediabistro Founder Honored

Laurel Touby awarded Exceptional Woman in Publishing 2011

Before MySpace, Facebook, or HuffingtonPost, there was mediabistro. Laurel Touby took her knack for hosting “media salon” parties for fellow writers and magazine editors, to launch a website devoted to community building, social networking, and career improvement. Soon professionals working in journalism, publishing, advertising, marketing, and design were visiting mediabistro.com frequently for news, insider job listings, and user-generated events. In 2007, Touby sold mediabistro.com for $23 million to WebMediaBrands.

Laurel Touby, founder of mediabistro.com is the thirteenth recipient of the annual Exceptional Woman in Publishing Award. Touby will be honored during the awards luncheon celebration at the third annual Women’s Leadership Conference in San Francisco on February 25, 2011.
